HISTORY: The Ross House
This was the home of Sir Charles Henry August Fred Lockhart Ross, ninth baronet of Ross-shire, who was one of the largest landowners in the British Isles. He served as a captain during the Boer War, designed the Ross rifle used by the Canadian army during World War I, and worked with Gen. John T. Thompson in perfecting the Thompson submachine gun (the "tommy gun"). He also experimented with an early version of the PT boat.
