The unspoiled Caladesi and Honeymoon Island parks of Dunedin are ideal areas for swimming, shelling, fishing, picnics and nature study and are some of the most secluded areas in Florida. Caladesi Island was named the sixth best beach in the United States and is one of the last remaining pristine barrier islands on the Gulf Coast. The islands are also refuges to several rare and endangered birds.
THE PINELLAS TRAIL
Perhaps one of the most unique recreational features in Dunedin is the Pinellas Trail, a 15-foot wide linear road running 47 miles through the St. Petersburg / Clearwater / Tampa area in an abandoned railroad right-of-way. The recreational trail is ideal for walking, jogging, biking, rollerblading or exploring nature. Dunedin’s 4.2 miles of trail winds through the heart of downtown. Dunedin homes on the trail are very valuable.
DUNEDIN LOCATION
Dunedin (pronounced DONE-EE-DIN) is located in northern Pinellas County and is set along the Gulf of Mexico. Dunedin lies north of Clearwater and south of Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor. With the larger cities such as Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg still within commuting distance, the Dunedin area is very appealing. Even though there is so much to enjoy in Dunedin, you can still enjoy a weekend getaway to Orlando, only 90 minutes away.
MORE INFO ON DUNEDIN
Richard L. Garrison recorded the first land deed for sale in 1852 – only seven years after Florida became a state. The town became incorporated in 1899, and a city in 1925. Dunedin was a large citrus producing area. It was the first home of the famous Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and for many years was home to the A.C. Nielsen Company, the well known “TV Ratings” people who have now relocated to Oldsmar. Today, the citrus business has all but disappeared, but the community’s Scottish heritage is kept alive with the annual Highland Games and other festivals. Dunedin is one of the prettiest cities in the Tampa Area.
