During the winter months we Floridians tend to complain if the temperature drops below 60
degrees. We get spoiled by the warmth and sunshine here. Despite the cooler
weather, take a look at the percentage of sunshine in December, January, and
February! That alone should make you want to move here. Although it's rare, we
have seen snow here on the Suncoast. On January 19, 1977, about an inch of snow
fell on the Tampa Bay area and snowmen came to life from Dunedin to Tampa. For
many, it was the first time they had ever seen snow, and some even put it in the
This is the most beautiful time of the year in Florida. We open our windows and enjoy the breeze. This is also when the orange trees bloom and the sweet smell of orange blossoms fills your senses with the most incredible fragrance. We really don't get a lot of rain in the spring like many other states do. When it does rain here though, it hardly ever spoils the day. Rain usually comes in quick and hard and then clears up very shortly thereafter, allowing us to continue on with our outdoor activities.
Okay, our summers are hot and humid, but once you live here for one year, you will be used to them and you will be complaining along with the rest of us when the January temps fall below 60. The numbers above were taken from the rssweather.com site but I believe the average highs for July and August are stated slightly low. While we never reach 100 degrees here, the highs in July and August can hover around 93 - 95 degrees. While the summer months get the most rainfall, the rains seem to fall into a pattern and occur at almost the same time every day, usually late afternoon. This makes it easy to plan for.
Yes we have a fall! Our weather cools slightly and all over Tampa Bay you
will see windows opening and convertible tops coming off cars, and many people out
jogging and bicycling. Some of the trees turn colors and it is just a
great time of year. The humidity drops to a comfortable level, and it's
the best time to visit the Tampa and Orlando theme parks.
